After being thrown from the roof of WWE headquarters in Money In The Bank at the hands of Baron Corbin, WWE superstar Rey Mysterio suffered a brutal assault by Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw. The former Universal Champion, in the throes of a competitive frenzy, hit him in the eye, making him impact against the edge of the steel steps at the edge of the ring.
The master of the 619 was promptly medicated in the backstage of the Performance Center. WWE herself thought about updating the health conditions of the Mexican wrestler through a short press release on the official website.
"Rey Mysterio's injury status is still listed as critical," WWE's statement read. "Doctors cannot properly assess the damage to his retina until the swelling subsides, as Rey is currently at-risk for infection.
Mysterio suffered an eye injury when Seth Rollins grinded his face into the corner of the steel ring steps." Over at his official Twitter account, former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio has opened up to his fans about the illness that is currently keeping him out of action.
"Would like to apologize to all the fans out in Cairo for not being able to attend the tour due to a serious illness! Really feel bad for missing this one, but promise to make the next tour. Rey is a two-time Intercontinental champion, two-time United States Champion, a four-time tag-team champion, a three-time Cruiserweight champion, and a three-time world champion.
He is also the winner of the 2006 Royal Rumble and has headlined several major WWE pay-per-view events. He departed the company in 2015 and then wrestled on the independent circuit, before returning to WWE in 2018. Per WWE, Mysterio is one of the most well-known and revered performers of all time.
