Rey Mysterio is destined to stay away from WWE for some time, due to the injury that Seth Rollins caused him in his brutal attack on Raw last Monday (and which of course is only the result of a storyline).
However, doubts are rekindled about his stay in the company of Vince McMahon, despite the fact that in the past there has been talk of a contract renewal substantially made. During the week, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter returned to deal with the issue, with Dave Meltzer who, on the one hand, said he was certain of the permanence in WWE of Mister 619, but at the same time underlined how nothing is written in black and white: "Not I expect him to leave, but the fact is that at present he could also do it."
Rey Mysterio signed an 18 months contract with WWE back in December 2018 and while the exact date for it is not known, his deal is nearing its end. WWE is likely to offer him a large contract to keep him away from the competition but the financial burdens are still there and it would be interesting to see if the two parties are able to come to an agreement.
Over the course of his time with the company, he has achieved sustained success, and is a two-time Intercontinental champion, two-time United States Champion, a four-time tag-team champion, a three-time Cruiserweight champion, and a three-time world champion. He is also the winner of the 2006 Royal Rumble and has headlined several major WWE pay-per-view events.
He departed the company in 2015 and then wrestled on the independent circuit, before returning to WWE in 2018. Per WWE, Mysterio is one of the most well-known and revered performers of all time.
