Roman Reigns on finding out he was wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania

Roman Reigns has won the WWE Championship three times, once the Universal Championship, once the Intercontinental Championship, once the United States Championship and once the Raw Tag Team Championship (with Seth Rollins), proving to be the seventeenth wrestler in the story to complete the Grand Slam (new format); he also won the 2015 edition of the Royal Rumble, which allowed him to attend the final WrestleMania 31 meeting.

He fought in the main event of many WWE pay-per-views, including four consecutive editions of WrestleMania (31, 32, 33 and 34), the company's most important event. Since the summer of 2014, WWE has chosen it as the "face of the federation", but its rise to the top as a babyface has been marked by the disapproval of critics and negative reactions from the crowd.

Speaking with ESPN, 'The Big Dog' recalled his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

"I remember the conversation with Vince," Roman Reigns recalled. "I saw The Undertaker like a week prior, and he almost gave it away, but he did good in covering it up.

He could tell I didn't know yet. When Vince explained it to me, I was just in awe. It's something that everybody who gets into the business wants, to get into the ring with The Undertaker. And I remember the first thing I thought was that I wanted to put him over.

I wanted to lose. Immediately, that was my instinct. Out of respect. I knew he was in pain, but I didn't know he was going in [for hip surgery] soon after that or else I would have crafted that story a little differently. So I knew it was on me to try to help carry it.

The movement of the match. Orbit around him. But I thought it would have been a better story if I was on my back at the end. Obviously, it didn't go that way" - he added. In 2020, Undertaker started a feud with AJ Styles.

Styles claimed that, in the last months, Undertaker lost his mystique because he broke kayfabe in social media and shoot interviews. At WrestleMania 36, The Undertaker presented a new character called "The Unholy Trinity", a mix of the supernatural, the American Bad Ass characters and the real-life person.

For several years, Calaway has been very hermetic about his personal life, being only presented in character to maintain the mystic of the gimmick. However, during the last years of his career, he allowed himself to be seen out of character, giving interviews as Mark Calaway and filming a documentary called The Last Ride.
