Former WWE Stars Maria and Mike Kanellis appeared at ROHStrong Podcast to talk about their WWE Push. Maria has worked for WWE numerous times. She started her WWE career as a backstage interviewer. With her husband, they worked at 205 Live.
However, they could never reach the top of the company and complained about that on social media numerous times. They eventually made it to the main roster, however, their push didn’t last for a very long time. They were part of various storylines.
One of the storylines even saw Maria win the 24/7 Title. She was pregnant at the time and became the first pregnant title holder in WWE.
Maria and Mike Kanellis on their WWE push
Maris first stated that WWE didn’t use them after rushing to sign them.
"We sat at home from March until June." Maria explained. "We had no contact until June. I already felt like something was fishy because if you were that excited about us ,why didn't you bring us out at Wrestlemania?" "We did the debut and regardless of how the crowd reacted, which we got a great reaction when we came out, that was it," Bennett (Mike Kanellis) said.
"Vince for whatever reason didn't see it and had pretty much all but dropped it." They were originally going to be a heel couple. Mike would have received a lot of heat for taking Maria’s last name. They even were not part of the Smackdown that happened after their debut.
"We weren't even on the broadcast," Bennett recalled. "We were written into the show and then we got cut. At that point me and Maria both went that's it, we're done." Mike Kanellis also stated that nobody was really listening to his ideas that he pitched for his character when Maria had to take leave as she was pregnant.
He also stated that nobody in the WWE is actually honest and say things clearly. "You'll hear it through the grapevine," he explained. "I've heard Vince was unimpressed when he saw you, Vince didn't like how your body looked, I've heard the gambit of things.
I've gone in and talked to Vince, none of these have ever come up in meetings or conversations, so again no one ever says anything to your face, it's just constantly you hear it."
