Roman Reigns ends 2020 by setting an impressive new record

2020 was a special year for the world of wrestling, a world like all the others upset by the pandemic and by all that has happened in these twelve "absurd" months. WWE has suffered from this situation and above all from having to play shows without the presence of the public, but among the wrestlers there have been some who have instead put themselves in great light.

One of these is definitely WWE Tribal Chief Roman Reigns, current WWE Universal Champion and arguably the main star of the entire main roster of Vince McMahon's company. Initially, the Big Dog was forced to leave the company temporarily to avoid difficult situations with the virus that could damage him and especially his family and therefore to protect the latter from Covid, Roman Reigns decided to stay out.

After a few months of absence Roman Reigns returned to SummerSlam in the crudest version of a Heel: in a short time Reigns totally took the chair of the main star of the WWE, won the title of Universal Champion and since that moment he has not more yielded.

Helping the Big Dog are the now trusted advisor, WWE Mad Genius Paul Heyman and his cousin, initially his rival and now his adept, Jey Uso.

In numbers: Roman Reigns’ year-by-year win ratios

It will be the months of absence, it will be the numbers of recent leaders but 2020 is the best year, data in hand, of Roman Reigns in WWE.

For the first time in his career, Reigns has reached the record of having accumulated a win percentage of more than 90% in the matches of this single calendar year. In this Heel version, Roman Reigns has obtained 90.6% of wins with 29 wins, two losses and only one no contest in all this particular 2020.

The first defeat came at the Royal Rumble which saw Drew McIntyre win while the second came on December 4th in the defeat by disqualification in the Tag Team Match of Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Kevin Owens and Otis. As for the No Contest, it concerns the beginning of the year and precisely the opening episode of SmackDown on January 3 where there was a No Contest in the Tag Team Match with Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns vs Dolph Ziggler and King Corbin.

Roman Reigns' previous best WWE record dates back to 2016 when the wrestler averaged 89.3% in his WWE matches. Roman Reigns’ previous best win ratio came in 2016 when he won 89.3% of his WWE matches. That was the year in which he defeated Triple H in the main event of WrestleMania 32 to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The year 2013 stands out the most in that list. Roman Reigns performed as a heel alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins throughout those 12 months. While the three Shield members often won on television, they regularly lost matches at live events.
