In the first episode of Friday Night SmackDown of the year, WWE has staged several novelties that will have very interesting developments for the coming weeks and for the possible episodes of the brand, with an unexpected return and some titled matches that until the eve of the show blue no one will want to change.
Sonya Deville, who was the loser from the Summerslam "loser leaves WWE" match, has also returned to the WWE scene after a few months of absence. In fact, the girl came back by surprise to be seen by the WWE cameras, in the backstage of the blue show, while her colleagues watched her walk quietly as if nothing had happened after she had disappeared from the scene for losing to Mandy Rose in the most important PPV of the summer.
WWE SmackDown Review
If the first titled match had already been announced during the Friday Night SmackDown live broadcast, the second match was instead added to the card of the next WWE Friday night event at Talking Smack, the federation's secondary program that sees the protagonists of the blue show go to deepen some segments already seen during the episode of the blue show.
WWE Universe fans will see two titled matches in the next episode; the first will see Big E defend his Intercontinental title against Apollo Crews, as a result of their chat in the backstage of the blue show, after the tag team victory of the evening against King Corbin and Sami Zayn and instead in the second title battle, the Street Profits will have to defend themselves from the attack of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode, who have officially announced their match on the microphones of Talking Smack.
We'll see if WWE continues to advertise something else for the next episode of the blue show after a week or if the rest of the card remains secret until the WWE flagship show airs on Friday night. The previous meeting between the teams took place on the December 18, 2020, episode of WWE SmackDown.
The Street Profits picked up the victory that night, with Ford pinning Roode to record the win. The New Year’s Day episode of WWE SmackDown featured a New Year’s ‘Smoke-tacular’ segment involving The Street Profits.
Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford poked fun at Ziggler and Roode throughout the segment until the two men attacked them from behind. Two title matches have now been confirmed for next week’s WWE SmackDown. As well as The Street Profits vs. Ziggler & Roode, Apollo Crews will challenge Big E for the Intercontinental Championship.
