Impressive Sasha Banks streak ends after 119 days

Carmella pinned Sasha Banks at the end of a Tag Team Match in the latest episode of SmackDown, which kicked off a new year of WWE. The pin ended a personal streak by the current SmackDown champion who hadn't suffered a pinfall or submission defeat in 119 days.

During this period the 'Boss' defeated Asuka, Bayley and Carmella and her most important victory is the one that allowed her to become the champion of the blue brand of the WWE in the Hell In A Cell Match against Bayley, her former ally with whom he shared many moments that enriched her career and her collection of trophies. This week SmackDown has proposed a match between the team composed of her and Bianca Belair and the one formed by Bayley and Carmella herself, who has been back for some time with a new character who seems to have convinced more than expected, also considering a good match that she and Sasha brought in that of Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2020.

When did Sasha Banks last lose via pinfall or submission?

Carmella's sommelier, Reginald, caused a distraction to Sasha Banks who only then found herself pinched by the two-time Miss Money In The Bank. It was not at all easy to reach such a milestone, especially for a champion or a champion of today and her last defeat due to a pin suffered by herself dates back to 4 September 2020, when Nia Jax managed to pin at the same time both she and Bayley in a couple of matches that always took place in SmackDown. With this in mind, it can be assumed that Carmella will have a new titled opportunity valid for the SmackDown women's title, after losing her first chance in the very last WWE PPV. The WWE will take the field again for a PPV next January 31st, with the Royal Rumble, a show that opens the doors for WrestleMania and launches the rivalries in view of the 'Grandaddy of Them All' and at this point, it would not surprise us, as mentioned before, see a new match between the two protagonists of this article. A run of nine matches without losing via pinfall or submission is impressive in modern-day WWE, especially for a titleholder. WWE Champions often lose non-title matches to set up future matches with a title challenger.

However, Sasha Banks had been able to avoid losing via that method for almost four months. Her most recent pinfall loss took place on the September 4, 2020, episode of WWE SmackDown. That show saw Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defeat Bayley & Sasha Banks, with Jax pinning both opponents at the same time.
