WWE had their eyes on booking Britney Spears

Over the years the WWE has repeatedly tried "tricks" and situations that probably had little to do with wrestling to try to raise the ratings of the federation, both in times of difficulty as happened recently and for particular events.

In fact, especially in the first event of the year, WWE always tries and in every way to shock their fans with situations at the limit of the normal extra. One of these occurred in the Monday Night Raw episode of January 1, 2007, when the Main event was a clash between American rapper Kevin Federline and Vince McMahon's champion and now federation legend John Cena.

That meeting saw Federline's resounding victory after Umaga's interference. When WWE brought Kevin Federline to WWE, the rapper was married to the queen of pop and world-famous singer Britney Spears. Over the course of his Something to Wrestle podcast Bruce Prichard revealed the real reason why WWE brought K-Fed into the federation.

Here are his words: "At that time Kevin Federline was looking for publicity for his album and wanted to shine by showing popular interactions with the public. The reality is that WWE thought that if she was good with the boy he would bring Britney Spears to WWE, even if only for a simple appearance or maybe to involve her in any particular way.

The reality, however, was different since a month after Federline's debut in WWE the singer and Britney Spears divorced" - Bruce Prichard said. Over the years WWE has tried several times to surprise their fans in the first episode of the year and also tonight, in the first Monday Night Raw of 2021, a special episode will be made where Vince McMahon has called some of the greatest legends of the WWE, starting precisely from Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

He also explained why some fans didn’t like Raw when it debuted. He said that pro wrestling fans don’t like new things because they don’t understand it. Those fans give in to that gut impulse to reject things because it’s not comfortable for them.

“It was different, it was new for the time. People don’t like change. People don’t like when you take away what they’re used to and you give them someone else. It’s like, ‘I’ve never seen this person before, who the Hell’s this guy?!’.

They’ll focus on what they don’t understand so it’s ‘I don’t understand it, I don’t like it;’ because it’s not comfortable”. Bruce Prichard is in a very powerful position in WWE right now.

Apart from the McMahon Family and Kevin Dunn, Prichard is the most influential voice around. It’s nice to know what he thinks about fans’ opinions when they don’t like something on television.
