Why WWE is continuing Roman Reigns' feud with Kevin Owens

WWE is in a paradoxically difficult situation. The goal for some time has been to have wrestlers with such a performance to participate in the Main Event but at the moment especially in the Smackdown roster, the situation is anything but simple.

This situation is even leading the company to continue a storyline that should actually be closed. In the last Royal Rumble the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns challenged and beat the challenger Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing Match and the WWE Tribal Chief won yet another clash between the two, a feud that therefore had to end with this clash.

In the last episode of Friday Night Smackdown the winner of the Royal Rumble provoked and challenged Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jimmy Uso multiple times, but in the end, after these two separated the WWE PrizeFighter intervened and hit the champion with a Stunner.

The blue show ended so and many of the WWE Universe were surprised how stunned by the company's choice to re-propose the umpteenth challenge between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens.

The Roman Reigns storyline: WWE is in a tricky situation

In the end, the reality of the facts is that besides Kevin Owens at SmackDown there is very little in the roster of wrestlers who could challenge Roman Reigns for the title: it is now clear that in Wrestlemania there should be a clash between Roman Reigns and Edge, but first there are two Pay per View and need to find an opponent for the champion.

During Wrestling Observer Radio the well-known colleague Dave Meltzer clarified why the WWE has been carrying out this feud between the Big Dog and Kevin Owens for some time now, the reality is as harsh as it is sad. Here are his words: "Their idea is to try to elevate some wrestlers on the roster.

There is Big E, but at the moment he is in the race for the Intercontinental title and is unlikely to challenge Roman Reigns anytime soon. They have not made Kevin Owens successful but are simply throwing him back at this challenge for lack of alternatives.

At the moment, unless you bet on Edge Owens right away, it's the only credible alternative." WrestleMania 37 will be held on April 10-11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. It is currently unclear who Roman Reigns and Big E will face at the event.

Edge, the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble winner, looks set to choose Roman Reigns as his opponent, but that has not yet been confirmed. As for Big E, he defeated Apollo Crews and Sami Zayn on this week’s SmackDown to retain his Intercontinental Championship.
