Roman Reigns reaches massive WWE milestone

Roman Reigns has returned to the role of WWE cover face ever since returning to SummerSlam last August, after stopping for a few months shortly before WrestleMania 36. In the meantime, he has again seized the Universal Champion belt, but above all, he has become the Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table and the absolute ruler of SmackDown.

So much so that in these days he set a new very important record for his career. Reigns beat Bray Wyatt at the Payback pay-per-view event, last August 30, 2020, at the Amway Center in Orlando (Florida), graduating as said Universal Champion in WWE, which he still holds.

Since then, he has kept the title against opponents of the caliber of Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan and Edge. Reigns has now held the title for 237 days during this titled reign. What is most impressive, however, is the most recent achievement by the Samoan ex Shield.

Combining his first titled reign, which had lasted 63 days, and this titled reign currently underway, Reigns in fact held the title for a total of 300 days, second all-time behind just Brock Lesnar.

Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan

Roman Reigns appears more and more central in the role not only of the champion but of the true fulcrum of the whole SmackDown show.

So much so that, with WrestleMania 37 just put behind him, he is already thinking in terms of WrestleMania 38. The idea of the insiders is in fact that, after getting rid of both Edge and Daniel Bryan all too easily, he will need a real heavyweight to put the current Universal Champion in real difficulty.

And in fact, a few days ago Dave Meltzer announced the following in his 'Wrestling Observer Newsletter': "They are working on a story and a long match. At the moment the champion is Roman Reigns and the company is waiting for three possible very profitable matches, namely the clashes against one between Dwayne Johnson The Rock, John Cena or Brock Lesnar.

For the status of Roman Reigns the WWE thinks that one of these is the only one who can really take the title from the Big Dog and maybe only later Reigns could regain the title. These are the long-term plans for the WWE Universal Championship situation."

WWE has announced a huge match for next week's episode of Friday Night SmackDown. On this week's episode of the blue brand, Roman Reigns gave Daniel Bryan a shot at the Universal Championship, but with a massive stipulation. As per the Tribal Chief, if Daniel Bryan loses the match, he will be banished from SmackDown.
