One of the real sacred monsters of the pro-wrestling world, considered by many to be the best performer in the history of the discipline, at least for the performances in the ring that he has given us fans over the course of his career, is undoubtedly Shawn Michaels.
The athlete, who retired after his match against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26, in which both the Heartbreak Kid's career and the Deadman's streak of victories were up for grabs, reappeared in a single match in Saudi Arabia, alongside of his brotherly friend Triple H and in the end, he also regretted this dispute, stating that he never wanted to leave the retreat again.
Mike Chioda on Shawn Michaels
In one of HBK's last major events in the Wrestlemania rings, there was also a WWE Championship titled match, against John Cena, in the 23rd edition of the Showcase of the Immortals. Many were waiting for Shawn Michaels to win on that occasion, but obviously, it didn't come in the end.
To the microphones of Lucha Libre Online, former WWE historical referee Mike Chioda, who you will remember being released by WWE in the wave of layoffs last year, wanted to talk about that famous WM23 main event, with Chioda who in fact stated: "For me, John Cena, even though Shawn Michaels remains phenomenal, don't get me wrong, but by that time John Cena had been on top for a while and was fucking himself for the company and all the other stuff.
So, was I surprised not to see the title return to Shawn's hands? Shawn wouldn't have had a run for at least another year or at least six months, I don't think he would have wanted to travel all that time anyway, you know? So I'm sticking to my idea of John Cena, because he was number one in selling merchandise, they pushed on his merchandise tremendously.
The company was making a lot of money. Admittedly... the guy who makes you money by selling merchandise is also the one who should be put on the front line. You know what I'm saying, don't you? It is a decision that comes from above, from Cesare, Vince."
During the match in question, Shawn Michaels hit Mike Chioda with Sweet Chin Music. Speaking to Michael Morales Torres, the referee said it was the "sweetest" kick he ever took from Michaels. "I wasn’t surprised at the outcome of the finish, but it was a hell of a match," Chioda said.
"Shawn lays the sweetest of Chin Music’s (on me). I didn’t even feel it that night. That’s how perfect he is. Shawn Michaels is one of the best icons, will be an icon, one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever worked with."
