Rob Van Dam is regarded by many as one of the best high-flying wrestlers of all time. He used to take massive risks during his time at ECW and the WWE. He used to fight extremely hard in almost all of his matches, but was mostly known for using tables, ladders, and chairs during his matches to entertain fans in a creative way.
Rob Van Dam Talks About Why Working Part-Time is Alright for Him As He Is 53 Years Old
Due to his creative wrestling, where he regularly put his body on the line to entertain fans, he grew a huge fan base. In fact, he is known by many as ‘One of a Kind’ as nobody after him could perform similar moves. RVD is kind of semi-retired. He worked for AEW for a small time, and AEW was the last biggest promotion that he worked for. He spoke about his time in AEW on his podcast, called ‘1 Of a Kind’. He revealed whether AEW offered him a contract, or was he just there to be paid per appearance. RVD stated that fans don’t seem to realize the importance of having time off.
"It is a big disadvantage being in the ring because no matter how much conditioning that I do, there's no wrestling conditioning like wrestling," he said. "If I was wrestling like every week, instead of sometimes every six weeks, maybe eight weeks, whatever. Then you would have a little, even more fluid RVD."
Some fans believe that RVD is not the same that he used to be. RVD revealed that they are absolutely correct. RVD is currently 53 years old and he stated that working full-time has its cons. RVD believes that one-off matches suit him, since he is not young anymore.
"That's one thing that I think about when I think about working weekly or under contract with an actual job versus just taking the shots here and there," he said.
We do not know when RVD will appear at AEW again, since AEW has not spoken about him for a very long time. However, RVD will be present for the Montreal Comic Con in July. RVD has also stated that he can work for WWE, if WWE wishes to hire him to work for them. RVD was present during the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony and he was also present during the WrestleMania 40 weekend. Paul Heyman acknowledged RVD during his Hall of Fame speech.
