The adorable WWE legend, Rey Mysterio, is getting closer to an in-ring comeback after a rough couple of months being laid off by injury. In April at WrestleMania 41, the legendary luchador had to pull out of the main event with the El Grande Americano because he tore his groin in a six-man tag on SmackDown.
Lashing the injury with another one, Mysterio even had a broken eardrum, which demonstrates the gravity of his condition during this time. WWE never gave the complete details but insiders such as Konnan have echoed that surgery was successful and Mysterio is now in recovery mode.
In early June the masked veteran had a non-wrestling comeback at the WWE X AAA Worlds Collide where he gave an emotional promo promoting the partnership between the two companies. He did not even enter the ring, but his presence spilled light in the arena and one must know that Rey is not done yet. He stood tall as fans applauded and he was willing to regain his position in the ring and fans were talking about what his move would be next.
August Return in Sight
There are even rumours that the reappearance of Rey was going to coincide with the summer schedules of WWE. During his podcast on Keepin' It 100, Konnan showed how Mysterio would reappear in August. Others such as PWMania and WrestlingNewsSource, reiterate that timetable, writing that he will likely be in full fighting shape by that point. WhatCulture even referenced SummerSlam as one of the possible big-stage re-entry opportunities of the high-flying icon.
Summer bookings in Mexico July 26 and 27 suggest Rey is perhaps warming up to non-wrestling appearances prior to returning to full competition. Even though it comes down to either a high-octane tag match or the pursuit of singles gold, WWE is ready to capitalize on his comeback story. To perfect his final chapter with Mysterio as part of the legacy, it could be to give him one more memorable run.
