Rey Mysterio has had a sensational career in this business, having won everything a wrestler can dream of and having participated in some of the most iconic feuds in recent WWE history. When he made his debut in the Stamford federation, it was difficult to imagine that this athlete so far from the usual canons could become one of the symbolic faces of the company and defeat authentic wrestling giants.

The masked luchador has shown the whole world that limits are often just an illusion and it didn't take long for him to become one of the favorite stars of the WWE Universe, which has always shown him incredible support wherever he has performed.

Although his 'prime' is behind him now, Rey does not want to end his career yet and is looking for the right way to retire on his own terms. Injuries have taken an increasing toll on his performance in recent years, and it was a physical problem that prevented him from participating in WrestleMania 41 this year.

Mysterio was supposed to face 'El Grande Americano' in the most important event of the season – which was held in Las Vegas on April 19 and 20 – but he could not be present and had to begin yet another rehabilitation process to return to the ring by the end of this year.

Rey Mysterio remembers Eddie Guerrero

Taking advantage of this free time, Rey was a guest on the latest edition of the 'No Contest Wrestling' podcast, in which he retraced the most significant moments of his long WWE career. He also revealed that – without the tragic death of his friend Eddie Guerrero – he probably would never have become world champion. Mysterio clinched his first world title at WrestleMania 22, almost 20 years ago.

“I truly believe in my heart that that moment wouldn’t have happened if Eddie hadn’t passed, because the connection that Eddie and I had—even though we were feuding at the end” – Rey explained.

“My last match against Eddie was SummerSlam for the custody of Dominik, which I wish Eddie would have beat me and he would have kept on it, looking back. But that connection that we had, you know, everything that we did together was so unique, so real, so organic” – he concluded.
