WWE SmackDown featured an exciting tag-team match, and in the middle of the aerial action, popular wrestler Johnny DIY Gargano got an ugly injury; even the commentators could not overlook the accident.

At one point of a fierce confrontation with Andrade and Rey Fenix, Gargano jumped the ropes, but slipped down spectacularly on his knee, staggering painfully into the steel ring steps. The action went out of camera, but ringside announcer Michael Cole and Wade Barrett promptly identified the dark moment as the former NXT champion was visibly suffering.

In spite of the gloomy landing Gargano would not submit. He struggled on with great apparent distress, and walking with extreme pain on his wounded leg. On live TV Cole affirmed that Gargano was injured however managed to soldier through the rest of the match before losing in the end with partner Tommaso Ciampa.

Painful Precision

Cole later confirmed that the injury was legitimate with an explanation that Gargano had hit the steel steps with his knee on an over-the-top-rope move, thus causing him much pain. The veteran instincts were at work in Gargano at the age of 37, and he had been smart enough not to reveal all about the pain, yet he grimaced and was unable to move freely.

Although specialists will evaluate the extent in the following days, the reports indicate that there is a likelihood of an injury to his knee that could render him temporarily incapacitated. One thing that is absolute is that this is not a plot development this is a bad break for a wrestler who has made his name on emotions and durability. It remains to be seen when WWE himself issues a formal statement on the matter but until then Gargano will have to take turn to the ringside medical staff and the health department of WWE.
