The WWE comeback of Rey Mysterio is turning out to be one of the most anticipated returns of the summer. Sidelined since April with a painful torn groin, the high-flying luchador is making some impressive progress in getting back in the ring.
During his last interview with the La Platica podcast, Mysterio has already started physical therapy, not to mention the surgery to repair a ruptured eardrum, which is a blow that nobody expected. However, he allayed the fears of fans saying, I am on the road to recovery, and he hopes he will be ready to perform in August.
His being wounded was ironic in the first place. As Mysterio himself said it occurred during an ordinary move across the ring that failed because he simply felt and heard a rip after pushing off, which was an eye-opener that no one, even the legends, is safe against freak accidents. The failure does not make him lose his spirit, though. He is 50 years old and the idea of retirement might be in his mind, but the fire that has been lit by the relationship with the fans of wrestling makes him yearn to come back.
Mysterio Eyeing High‑Profile Comebacks
Sources inside WWE say that it is more than a random house show coming back. Dave Meltzer notes that Rey will most likely make an appearance (but not a match) at WWE Supershow live events in Mexico City and Monterrey in July 2627.
These weeks may be a gentle warm-up before he gets back into competitive mode. According to Wrestling-World, he might even compete at WWE events in Mexico in late July, which would pave the way toward a complete broadcast comeback in the SummerSlam build-up in August.
Every indication is that there will be an exciting comeback. Should Mysterio re‑appear in the SummerSlam hype, or during RAW/SmackDown tapings, this would create one of the storylines of the summer. His comeback would especially be felt in Mexico, where he has a lot of influence.
